A great leader requires strategic thinking. Always thinking ahead. If you’re in front of the pack you need to see what’s coming. Strategic thinking is important for planning and for avoiding situations or problems. How long do you think you would lead for if you kept getting the pack of followers into trouble? Strategic planning and thinking is vital for leadership.

Passionate people inspire people. Believing in your cause and having a vision is important. Being passionate will help leaders be persuasive and influential. Their words are influenced with passion to create and convey a compelling story or reason for action. People need to become motivated and how could you do this with a monotone and downward emotion. Having a vision is what drives people forward.

Knowing your stuff and calculating the numbers are important to be a successful leader. Many battles would have not been won if miscalculations had taken place. You don’t have to be right all of the time however when your leading a group mistakes can be costly. If a mistake is made move on quickly and find another plan of attack. Always have a plan B.

A good leader has good followers. Where do you think many great leaders would be today if they never had the followers to follow them? Allocate tasks to other followers and involve the group. By doing this you share the responsibility and also the group will feel empowered to trust you. Have some great team leaders to help reinforce your vision. What happens when you’re not there? Having great team leaders will help you and your team.

You also need to make sure your team are motivated and happy. If you find a negative emotion within it, it could be like a bad apple in the fruit bowl. Some leaders realise the importance of communication. By discussing the needs and regular communication and follow up teams are able to see how they are doing and also know if they are on the right track. If you let your team go down a path and you don’t check on them they may veer off into trouble. Communication is the key to keeping your staff or team continuing on the right path.

You need to give feedback to your team. The more feedback the more understanding of where they are. BY letting them know that they are making great progress and achieving the smaller goals, you will find the larger ones will be accomplished with ease.

If you have charisma you will find that leadership can be easier. Great leaders are personable people and create rapport easily. Building rapport is all about similarities so mirroring the other person can help them feel like you and thus you will get along easier. Being charismatic will help you with your leadership. Add humour as this will add credibility and reputation.
