Business Advice for New Business

Marketing your Business

What is business marketing? Well it’s the ability to promote your business to other companies and businesses. In return they would use your products or services. It can also be called B2B or business to business marketing.

Business marketing is different to consumer marketing as it needs to target a different group and thus may require a different form of marketing. Selling your product to your target market is what it is all about and finding the niche to do it with is vital.

There are four categories of your client in business marketing. 1. Other companies who use your services or products. 2. Government agencies. 3. Institutions such as schools or hospitals. 4. Resellers. In the consumer market your customer is an individual opposed to a business.

Using the first one as an example you may sell spare parts to an Auto shop. The government agencies and institutions might use your products or services to run their business from day to day. These agencies make up a large part of the purchasing sector. And the resellers would be wholesalers and distributors (like Amazon) that sell your products or services to the consumer.

Consumer marketing may require you to deal with multiple individuals where as business marketing may require you to deal with one person within an organisation.

The business market you trade with can be relatively small but this is a positive in your business. You can study your target market well and your marketing process can be quite simple. If you know who your clients are you can then work out what your marketing strategy will be. Company branding needs to be standard and be on all forms of communication and emails.

Trade shows may be an avenue for you to market your business. They are useful for networking, and meeting new clients who are looking for products or services similar to yours. Local business events can be a great form of networking also as you can meet the buyer and they are specifically designed to create business relationships.

You can also use direct mail to target customers if you wish. Direct mail is good in the way in which you target a client with a specific product or service. Brochures, leaflets, and other promotional material can help your brand get out there and also create awareness. Telemarketing can also be used for the direct approach and is another good way to target specific companies or clients.

Publicity is also helpful. Using PR firms or public relations businesses can help create newsworthy or media related advertising. Industry specific magazines and publications can also add credibility and reputation.

Internet marketing is also a great area to advertise your products. Most companies develop a large internet presence and promote their products online. The advantages of this are they are available worldwide, 24/7 and can be purchased instantly. Social networking such as twitter and facebook are also ways to develop a constant flow of followers or clients and promote your products and services.

If you can vary your range of advertising and marketing you will find what works for you.
