Leadership for Leaders
Some people have been said to be born leaders. These ones have been placed in a position that required them to act and take charge of a group or nation. The history books have shown us many great experiences of ones who have such a talent. Lucky for us we can learn this talent.
What defines a leader?
What do great leaders have that others don’t have? You may say followers but when it comes to leadership there’s more to it that just that. Great leaders have an ability to inspire and have leadership qualities. What if we could imitate those qualities? Would that make us great leaders?
Leadership requires Strategic thinkers. To plan ahead and organise the steps to be taken way ahead of time is a good thing to do as you can avoid problems and situations. You wouldn’t want to lead people into the path of trouble so planning and strategic thinking is a vital element of leadership.
To drive people forward you must have a vision. There needs to be reason for action and a plan of attack. Having a passionate vision and believing in it is a requirement for leaders to become inspirational. Be enthusiastic towards your idea and convey the emotion within the speech. Great speakers and leaders from past know how important it is to put emotion into the message.
To be a great leader you must also be a great manager. If you manage costs, people, plans, and your vision you will have a level of control that all leaders need to have. Without control or authority you can have anarchy among the followers. You need to know how long it will take, how many people you need and the cost to everyone as a group.
You need team leaders to help with the workload. What is a leader without his followers? If you have team leaders they can help share responsibility and also help when you’re not there. You need to have a clear message and have others reinforce it with you. Social influence is a great way to start the snowball down the hill. The more you have following you when you start your vision the more likely it is to take flight and succeed.
Keep your team happy and you will have greater success. With a happy team followers are more likely to follow you and also support you. Reward your followers and look after them. They will in return look after you.
Talk to your team. It is important to communicate well with your followers. They need reassurance and direction throughout the process or plan. By being in direct communication with your team you are providing them feedback on the path they are on. Let them wander by themselves too much and they may be on a new path without you.
Let your team know when they have reached a milestone. By completing smaller tasks they will be motivated to continue on. Overall the large tasks can be broken up into smaller ones to make the group feel easier to succeed and move forward. Feedback is an important part of Leadership.
Being a humours leader can add credibility and reputation. Careful how you use it though as it can also take it away if misused. Being charismatic will help others want to follow you also. Learn how to become personable and build rapport.
