How to train Generation Y

Trainers and managers may think that younger workers are hard to deal with, not interested, carefree, and that they know it all. You may be surprised to find out that these individuals are enthusiastic, confident and achievement orientated. We have managed to bridge the gap successfully for businesses around Australia and we would like to share some of our discoveries.

Here are some tips for training Generation Y

  • Challenge them and provide immediate feedback
  • They are bored easily, so design programs with variety and entertainment
  • Provide entertainment within the training session
  • They expect everything to be high quality, provide up to date information
  • Use facts and figures to support your training
  • Focus on results
  • Do not tell them what to do but help them discover it themselves- Questions are great for this
  • Increase the speed and interaction within the course
  • Use technology- Computers, Video and Audio aids
  • Provide prizes for motivation and participation
  • Take frequent breaks

We find the participants enjoy entertaining training and they learn more, participate more and relate more to the energetic, interactive and fast paced training sessions.
