Build Rapport in Seconds

Rapport is all about relationships. You don’t necessarily have to be someone’s friend, yet rapport is essential for strong sales performance. Here are some tips on how to build rapport over the phone or in person instantly.

  • Mirror clients body language. By mirroring the style of your client they will see that you are similar and this will help you to build rapport. Do not mirror disabilities or anything too personal. What you are trying to do is adapt your own behaviour to help the client feel comfortable.
  • Use the verbal words that your client uses. This will help in communicating effectively and your customer will understand as they use the same terminology. Do not use too simple wording for educated clients. This will make them feel awkward or may come across sarcastic. First listen then use.
  • Your clients speed and pitch of the conversation can also be mirrored. This will help the client again communicate effectively. By speaking like your client they will like you more as you again come across similar to them.
  • Direct you clients and help them feel comfortable. For instance, if your holding a seminar place pens at the tables you would like people to sit at. This will help clients proceed to these desks without being asked.
  • Even clothing and hairstyles will reflect who you are like. If going out to a work site a tie may be too formal. If your attending a business meeting a jacket may be required.
